Mrs. Dana Davis
Position: Chair
Organization: Leaders Of Tomorrow
Biography
Growing up in Los Angeles'inner city which is notorious for being crime ridden, drug infested, gang lorded and burdened by racial divides, Dana Davis believed that constant adversity was so much a part of life that everyone inherently was equipped with uncommon resilience, will, and courage. It wasn’t until she left home for college that she realized that adversity and struggle were not the status quo; she discovered that she was one of a few that was institutionally categorized and branded by society with various socialistic, economic and, even, euphemistic labels. This realization, which would play and rewind a million times as she faced new challenges in the “real world” would at times make her second guess her resilience, her will, her courage and ultimately, her ability to overcome the adversity that had plagued her all throughout her youth. From “at-risk” to “survivor of abuse”, to “minority, Dana met the various criteria for the numerous labels. Statistics pre-determined that the earlier trials in her life were a strong indication that she would not graduate from high school and repeat the cycle of poverty in which she had been raised and be doomed to a lifetime of emotional and psychological turmoil. Looking back, she recognizes that her route to victory and triumph came from her ability to accept her life struggles for the temporary circumstances that they were, move on and use these skills to achieve her dreams.Speech Titles
