Biography
Yoko Matsumoto is the Literacy Coordinator for Arlington Reads, a multi-faceted literacy program designed to address the adult and family literacy learning needs in Arlington.
Prior to joining theCity of Arlington - Library Department, Yoko worked extensively in the field of education. She has over ten years experience working with educational programming for parents and children at multiple levels. She has experience working in U.S. and international (Peace Corps volunteer, West Africa) public school systems as well as the glamorous non-profit sector.

Speech Description
Studies have shown that 65% of the children of illiterate adults become illerate adults themselves.
Providing literacy programs for parents can actually help children do well in school and break the cycle of poverty. Programs that address developing literacy skills in entire families are key to addressing literacy levels in any community.
