Mr. James (Jim) E Walther

Biography
Mr. Walther has completed two noteworthy careers in military service and higher education. After retirement in 1981 as an Army Officer, he completed his graduate work and served for 25 years in both lecture and administration at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). While he taught management subjects, his favorite class was a team taught class in career planning that spanned 17 years.
Since retirement from UTA, he has served his community as a distinguished president of his Kiwanis Club, and as Lt. Governor for Division 39, of the Kiwanis Texas Oklahoma District.
He has helped the Kiwanis Clubs of Arlington launch the Arlington Alliance for Youth, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization committed to promoting the five promises to our youth encouraged by America's Promise. However, he has gained special insight in to the life of today’s youth and families from his four daughters and eleven grandchildren.

Speech Description
- There are many new trends that are shaping our world and creating a daunting future for today's generation of youth. Parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, counselors, and neighbors, equipped with this knowledge can help our students achieve the higher expectations and standards they face. If we work on a community level, we can make a major impact.
- Wouldn't it be great if Arlington became one of the top 100 best cities for young people? We have a great start on this goal because of the many volunteers in our community. However, to achieve the top 100 status will require some new and innovative programs to support our youth. Through this speech, you and your organization can help understand our needs and how to make meaningful improvements.
- This discussion is great for Adult Sunday Schools and looks at the Five Promises and their biblical foundation. This will normally require 2-3 class periods and an annual followup.
